Group SF4, State Key Laboratory for Surface Physics
Atomic-level Control and Quantum Effects of Low-dimensional Nanostructures
  Research
Recently, the group will focus the following two topics. The first is quantum modulation of surface reactivities and rational design of heterogeneous catalysts by using quantum size effects in metal thin films grown on semiconductor or insulator substrates. The other is topological insulators (TIs), a new class of quantum matter discovered very recently. Although many novel properties in TIs were theoretically predicted, few of them have been experimentally observed. The main problem comes from sample quality. Therefore, the starting point of our research will be the growth of high quality thin films of TIs with low defect density and high carrier mobility by using state-of-art MBE technique.
