Research Interests:

(1) Growth and atomic-level control of low-dimensional nanostructures and thin films of (magnetic) metals and semiconductors by MBE, and study on the electronic structures, magnetic properties, quantum effects and the correlation of these properties of nanostructures by STM, angle-resolved PES and SMOKE;
(2) Novel quantum phenomenon inter-related with magnetic, optical and electronic properties in nano-structures of magnetic and semiconducting materials such as spin state and energy quantization of electrons, nanoscale charge transport and Coulomb blockade under magnetic field by low-temperature strong magnetic-field dual-probe STM;
(3) Growth of magnetic nanostructures and dilute magnetic semiconductors by MBE, study on spin injection, transport and decoherence in these systems for spintronics and quantum computing by spin polarized STM and optical probes;
(4) Self-assembling of biomolecules and organic materials, single molecule reaction and nanocatalysis by STM/AFM;
(5) ZnO-based thin film growth and optoelectronics by MBE.

Research Facilities

(1) UHV variable temperature scanning tunneling microscope (VT-STM)-molecular beam epitaxy(MBE)-surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE) hybrid system.
(2) Angle-resolved photoemission spectrometer STM/AFM-MBE hybrid system.
(3) Low-temperature strong-magnetic-field dual-probe STM-MBE hybrid system.
(4) UHV STM for local work function measurement.
(5) Radio-frequency plasma-assisted MBE system for growth of ZnO/ZnMgO thin films and dilute magnetic semiconductors .
