Research Interests

Strong correlation effects in transition metal oxides (TMOs)

To study the epitaxial growth of low-dimensional metals and oxides on oxide surfaces, the lattice/electron structures and dynamics of surfaces of single crystalline TMOs, by using ultra-high vacuum low-temperature/variable-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy, high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy, photoemission spectroscopy, oxide molecule beam epitaxy, four-probe transport measurements, and high/low energy electron diffraction.

Novel quantum effects in low-dimensional metals

To study the controllable growth of metallic quantum dot/wire arrays, the critical behaviors of low-dimensional metals induced by their intrinsic instabilities, the quantum confinement effects of nanostructures, and the collective excitation behaviors of the carriers in low-dimensional metals, by using ultra-high vacuum variable-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy, low energy electron diffraction, molecule beam epitaxy, four-probe transport measurements, and infrared reflectivity measurements.
